Born in Saint Petersbourg, Yelena Samoukova began painting when she was a child. In 1990, she applied to the Academy of Art and Design as a student in the department of manufacturing of art textiles. After her arrival in Canada in 1999, she yearned to express her deep respect, tenderness and appreciation of the Russian culture. She decided to make a series of pen and ink drawings. In these, she has incorporated her childhood memories and the concept of women who need peace and tranquility and who protects their home and children.
